How can not-for-profits develop resiliency in times of economic uncertainty?

How can not-for-profits develop resiliency in times of economic uncertainty? Similar to their for-profit counterparts, by putting their donors at the heart of everything they do, not-for-profit organizations can create donor experiences that drive impact, foster meaningful connection, and inspire giving.

In Level5’s view, there are three fundamental questions not-for-profits need to consider in their pursuit of becoming donor-centric organizations.

What motivates donors to give to us?

By understanding the unique value not-for-profits deliver to their customers, they are able to better identify opportunities to deliver on what donors are looking for. Understanding donor motivations can be done through quantitative and qualitative research, identifying the rational and emotional benefits donors are expecting not-for-profits to deliver on.

Where do these motivations come to life along the journey?

Once organizations understand the rational and emotional benefits donors are after, identifying where to deliver them is the critical next step. This exercise is fundamentally about understanding where organization should focus their effort to deliver the highest value to customers.

How are we performing against these expectations at these important moments?

By mapping the various touchpoints across the donor journey, identifying where there are gaps in donor expectations, and which touchpoints have the greatest opportunity to surprise and delight. Not-for-profits can prioritize where their efforts and resources are will deliver outsized impact.

These questions guide Level5’s approach to helping our clients become more donor centric. By identifying the most important rational and emotional drivers, where they live in the journey, and how organizations are delivering on them, we create a holistic view of where not-for-profits need to focus.
